Anything a modern computer can do, its relay-based cousin can do. Just on a much larger scale and much much slower. The Demo sounds are for fun only and are not linked to actual exchange workings. Young kids will enjoy the sounds.

A large phone exchange may use ~1,300 relays to complete a call.

Each combo (31) of the 5 relays has an assigned sound code. Each code stands for a dedicated function in a working exchange.

So, for example, when you hear a frog croaking, imagine the relays are counting dial pulses.  Each sound code represents a different operation.
